Si è svolta sabato 9 maggio 2026, presso l’Aula del Senato della Repubblica, la cerimonia di premiazione della XII edizione del concorso nazionale “Tracce di memoria”, promossa dalla Direzione generale Archivi del Ministero della Cultura, in collaborazione con l’Istituto Centrale per gli Archivi e con l’Archivio Flamigni.
L’iniziativa si è tenuta nell’ambito del Giorno della Memoria dedicato alle vittime del terrorismo e delle stragi di tale matrice, istituito con la legge n. 56 del 4 maggio 2007 e celebrato nell’anniversario dell’uccisione di Aldo Moro.
La cerimonia si è svolta alla presenza del Presidente della Repubblica Sergio Mattarella, del Presidente del Senato Ignazio La Russa, del Presidente della Camera Lorenzo Fontana, del Vicepresidente del Consiglio e Ministro degli Affari Esteri Antonio Tajani e del Ministro dell’Istruzione e del Merito Giuseppe Valditara, insieme a rappresentanti delle istituzioni, familiari delle vittime e studenti provenienti da tutta Italia.
Il concorso “Tracce di memoria” coinvolge ogni anno studentesse e studenti delle scuole italiane in percorsi di ricerca dedicati alla storia dell’Italia repubblicana, attraverso l’utilizzo di fonti archivistiche, linguaggi multimediali e attività di approfondimento sui temi del terrorismo, della violenza politica e della memoria civile.
L’edizione 2025/2026 ha visto la partecipazione di circa trenta scuole provenienti da diverse città italiane. I progetti realizzati hanno affrontato il tema della memoria come strumento di conoscenza e cittadinanza attiva, valorizzando il ruolo delle fonti archivistiche nella comprensione della storia contemporanea.
Nel corso della cerimonia sono state premiate tre scuole, una per ciascun ciclo di istruzione. Per la scuola primaria il riconoscimento è andato alla classe IV A T.P. del plesso “Matteotti” dell’Istituto Comprensivo n. 7 “Carmen Silvestroni” di Forlì, con il progetto “Il treno della scelta”, dedicato alla strage dell’Italicus e alla figura di Silver Sirotti.
Per la scuola secondaria di primo grado è stata premiata la classe II B del plesso “Pascoli” dell’Istituto Comprensivo “Andrea Zanzotto” di Caneva (Pordenone), autrice del progetto “Quello che una strage ci insegna”, incentrato sulla strage di Piazza della Loggia.
Per la scuola secondaria di secondo grado il premio è stato assegnato alla classe V B del Liceo Scientifico Statale “Belfiore” di Mantova, per il progetto “Aldo Moro: la ferita aperta – Verità e memoria a 48 anni dal sequestro”, dedicato alla vicenda Moro attraverso documentazione, teatro e fonti d’archivio.
Attraverso il lavoro svolto dalle scuole, il concorso rinnova l’impegno nella trasmissione della memoria storica e nella valorizzazione delle fonti archivistiche come strumenti di conoscenza, partecipazione e consapevolezza civile.

“Traces of Memory”: The Senate Hosts the Award Ceremony for the 12th Edition of the National Competition for Schools
A ceremony was held at the Senate to mark the 12th edition of the initiative, which engages Italian schools in research projects on the history of the Republic, terrorism, and civic memory through the use of archival sources. Three classes from different educational levels were honored for projects focusing on mass killings and the Moro affair, in the presence of the nation’s highest authorities
The awards ceremony for the 12th edition of the national competition “Traces of Memory,” promoted by the General Directorate of Archives of the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Central Institute for Archives and the Flamigni Archive, took place on Saturday, May 9, 2026, in the Senate of the Republic.
The event was held as part of Remembrance Day, dedicated to the victims of terrorism and related massacres, established by Law No. 56 of May 4, 2007, and observed on the anniversary of the assassination of Aldo Moro.
The ceremony took place in the presence of President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, President of the Senate Ignazio La Russa, President of the Chamber of Deputies Lorenzo Fontana, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani, and Minister of Education and Merit Giuseppe Valditara, along with representatives of institutions, family members of the victims, and students from all over Italy.
Each year, the “Traces of Memory” competition engages students from Italian schools in research projects dedicated to the history of the Italian Republic, utilizing archival sources, multimedia resources, and in-depth activities on the themes of terrorism, political violence, and civic memory.
The 2025/2026 edition saw the participation of approximately thirty schools from various Italian cities. The projects addressed the theme of memory as a tool for knowledge and active citizenship, highlighting the role of archival sources in understanding contemporary history.
During the ceremony, three schools were honored, one from each educational level. For elementary school, the award went to Class IV A T.P. of the “Matteotti” campus at Comprehensive School No. 7 “Carmen Silvestroni” in Forlì, for the project “Il treno della scelta” (The Train of Choice), dedicated to the Italicus train massacre and the figure of Silver Sirotti.
For lower secondary school, the award went to Class II B of the “Pascoli” campus of the “Andrea Zanzotto” Comprehensive School in Caneva (Pordenone), creators of the project “What a Massacre Teaches Us,” focused on the Piazza della Loggia massacre.
For high schools, the award was presented to Class V B of the “Belfiore” State Scientific High School in Mantua for the project “Aldo Moro: The Open Wound – Truth and Memory 48 Years After the Kidnapping,” which explores the Moro affair through documentation, theater, and archival sources.
Through the work carried out by the schools, the competition renews its commitment to transmitting historical memory and promoting archival sources as tools for knowledge, participation, and civic awareness.
